In 2005, we launched Val de Grace Books, a business dedicated
to developing and publishing top-quality books on American business,
wine and culture. We then launched Silverado Books, an imprint
devoted to publishing exciting new fiction from the American West.
At both Val de Grace Books and Silverado Books, we are not just publishers. We work closely with writers to help them discover their voice, shape
their vision, and then write their stories with originality and panache. And we have a team of mentors, editors, book designers and photographers
to help bring their unique visions out into the world.

Birgitte's War
Ten years ago, Elsebeth Schoenberger walked into a writing
class in the Napa Valley and suddenly discovered she had a rivetting
story to tell: A story of The Danish Resistance.
Now Elsebeth has brought forth "Birgitte's War," chronicling the
traumas and heroism of a young Danish girl coming of age in the midst
of the Nazi warplanes, tanks and soldiers who took over her peaceful
town in the Danish countryside. But this story has a surprise: Birgitte
falls in love with a handsome young German officer, an encounter that
shocks both of them to the core.
Published by Silverado Books, appearing this fall.

Spirit in Metal
Richard Mendelson never saw himself as an artist. He was an
accomplished lawyer and winemaker in the Napa Valley, a man
of disciplined reason and science. But then one day his mother
died, quite unexpectedly, and in his grief Richard began rummaging
through the scrap metal in a junkyard. Out of an old conveyer belt
Richard fashioned his first work of art, Slipped Disk. This book
is both a portfolio of his work and the story of his profound artistic
and spiritual awakening.

Sparring with Rembrandt
Monroe Katz grew up in the streets of Brooklyn with several strikes against him. His mother, a painter, died three days after she gave birth to him. and his father was both a deadbeat and a mooch. So as a young boy, Monroe set off on a most difficult quest: to become a painter in his own right and connect with his missing mother in the process.
Today Monroe is an award-winning painter, and an accomplished writer as well. In this autobiographical novel, Katz unfurls his life story through his alter-ego, Norman. The result is a novel rich in feeling and insight, not just about art but what it takes to succeed in life.
